I tried to find all the locations on my own, but some were just too difficult so I watched the DVD commentaries. Tarsem and Lee Pace were particularly great at mentioning the locations, as were Nico Soultanakis and Dan Gilroy, so thank you all! Now, if you could email me with the ones I'm missing, that would be good too!

I think it's not South Africa, but Brazil. The main reason is that some scenes were shot in Brazil (according to the movie credits), but I couldn't figure out which (nor anyone at IMDB boards could). The sugar cane plantation seemed 'Brazilian' to me... somewhere in Minas Gerais state, maybe?
